Grammarli does not collect, store, or transmit any of your data except to Google's Gemini API when you request a grammar check. Your API key is stored locally in your browser and never leaves your device. No analytics, no tracking, no third-party sharing. Period.

1. Data Collection

Grammarli does not collect any personal information, usage data, or analytics. Everything you do with the extension stays on your device.

What We DON'T Collect:

❌ No usage analytics — how you use the extension
❌ No tracking — no cookies, no fingerprinting
❌ No crash reports — unless you manually send them
❌ No third-party sharing — we don't sell or share anything

📊 The Only Data That Exists

Local counters — Request and token counts are stored locally to help you track your daily usage. This data never leaves your browser and is not sent anywhere.

3. How Your Data Is Used

🔑 Gemini API Key

Your API key is stored locally in chrome.storage.local and is used only to authenticate with Google's Gemini API. It is never transmitted anywhere except directly to Google's API endpoints (generativelanguage.googleapis.com).

📝 Text for Grammar Checking

When you request a grammar check, your text is sent to Google's Gemini API for processing. The text is not stored by Grammarli, and Google's Gemini API does not use your data for training (under their standard terms).

⚠️ Important Note About Gemini API

Grammarli is a client-side application. When you use the extension, your text goes directly from your browser to Google's Gemini API. Grammarli does not host, proxy, or store your text on any intermediate server. Please review Google's Gemini API Terms for their data handling practices.

📊 Usage Counters

Request and token counters are stored locally to help you track your daily usage against the free tier limits (1,500 requests/day, 1,048,576 tokens/day). These counters never leave your browser.

4. Data Sharing

Grammarli does not share any data with third parties. The only external communication is with Google's Gemini API, which occurs solely when you actively request a grammar check.

6. Security

While Grammarli takes privacy seriously, please note:

🔐 Local storage: Your API key is stored in chrome.storage.local, which is not encrypted by default. This is a browser limitation. Consider this when using the extension on shared devices.
🔑 API key protection: We recommend using a dedicated API key for Grammarli and rotating it periodically.
🌐 HTTPS: All communication with Gemini API uses HTTPS encryption.
💻 Client-side only: All processing happens on your device. No data is ever sent to Grammarli servers (because there are none!).

🛡️ Your Data, Your Control

Since all data is stored locally, you have full control over your information. You can delete everything by uninstalling the extension or clearing your browser data.

7. Your Rights

Under GDPR, CCPA, and other privacy regulations, you have the right to:

📋 Right to data portability — Not applicable (no data to export)

8. Children's Privacy

Grammarli does not knowingly collect any personal information from children under 13. The extension is not directed at children, and we do not target or market to children.

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify you of any changes by posting the new Privacy Policy on this page and updating the "Last Updated" date. We encourage you to review this policy periodically.
